General Information:

UMBC at Shady Grove works closely with the Office of Student Disability Services (SDS) on the UMBC main campus to provide disability support services for registered Shady Grove students. Services are provided for any student with a documented disability who qualifies under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, as amended) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, who requests and is eligible for accommodations based on the functional limitations and impact of their disability. Please note that accommodations are not retroactive and begin once a UMBC SDS Disability Specialist has approved a student for accommodations and the Semester Letter of Accommodations has been sent to the faculty member.

The following link to the SDS website contains information on the services available to students registered with SDS and provides procedural and resource information for students with disabilities: https://sds.umbc.edu

Registering with SDS:

Although students who have disabilities are not required to register with Student Disability Services (SDS), those who wish to use accommodations must be registered with SDS. This is done once, when you first request and are approved for accommodations.

To register, go to the following link and follow the instructions: https://sds.umbc.edu/accommodations/registering-with-sds/

Semester Request - Requesting to use your approved accommodations every semester:

UMBC SDS uses a secure online software application called Accommodate to track and deliver accommodations for students who completed the registration process. Each semester in which you are enrolled and wish to use your accommodations, you must submit a Semester Request in Accommodate. This gives SDS permission to send your Letter of Accommodations to the instructors for the courses you have that semester. A copy of that letter will also automatically go to you and to the Center for Academic Success (CAS) at USG. Instructions for submitting the Semester Request can be found at: https://sds.umbc.edu/accommodate-semester-request/

Scheduling Accommodated Testing at USG:

Students at USG with testing accommodations will follow the procedures established by the CAS for scheduling their tests. This means that you must have already submitted a Semester Request for the current semester (see above) before you can schedule your tests at the CAS. Read more about the CAS test scheduling process at: https://shadygrove.umd.edu/student-services/center-for-academic-success/dss/Studenttesting
